You may have seen some online buzz from this article on Ad-Age about Facebook showing fewer people our page posts.
It says that ‘organic reach’ has decreased, and will continue to do so.
In plain English, that means fewer people who Like your page will see your posts … unless you pay to promote those posts!
Yes, it’s annoying and makes us long for the ‘good old days’ before Facebook was trying to make a profit.
It’s tempting to jump ship and focus on another social media platform.
But the challenge with all social media, is that we’re marketing on someone else’s platform! You don’t ‘own’ your Facebook fans or Twitter followers. You’re relying on the Facebook or Twitter platforms to reach them. And when Facebook (and someday, Twitter) decide to change their algorithms or policies – you lose access to those fans.
So what can you do to get more people to see your posts?
Here are a few options…
- Consider paying to promote some of your Facebook posts (check out Amy Porterfield’s training on Facebook ads) Paying to promote posts works best for posts which ask people to take action – they might be part of a product launch or sales funnel, or ask people to opt-in to your email list.
- Consider using your personal Facebook page instead of a fan page to promote your business. The downsides are that you’re limited to 5,000 ‘friends’ on a personal page AND you might annoy your existing personal contacts.
- Diversify your social media – if you’re only using Facebook, consider adding an additional social media platform to the mix, such as Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn or Google+ (choose the platform your ideal client uses, not just the one you like the best!
But the very best option to increase the reach of your content is…
- Ask all of your Facebook fans to sign up for your email newsletter!
Email marketing is key for your wellness business online, because you can contact your subscribers whenever you want!
Yes, you need to provide valuable content, and write interesting email newsletters that attract your ideal client – but email is under your control – and it still works.
You might ask your subscribers to get on your email list like this:
Did you know that you might not be seeing all of my Facebook posts?
Facebook has changed what it shows in your news feed, and even though you Like my page, you may not get all of my updates!

Yes, you might have to promote this post so that enough people see it – but you should get a boost in email subscribers!
And remember, going forward – get people on your email list first – then from within your emails, promote your social media presence.
